Surface Tension

I know a soap bubble. On the surface, it might look a lot like any soap bubble. The same shape (a little smaller than average, some might say), but just overall what you’d expect if I told you to picture one. That is, unless you receive an opportunity to see this one in its own light. Then it truly begins to shine.

Its sheen boasts a level of iridescence I can guarantee you haven’t seen before. From the first time you glimpse it in person, it lights up your world. The way it beams, you’d almost think it had an infectious smile that would put one on your face too. You can catch glimpses of its inquisitive nature, bouncing around others, knowing just what to do to capture the attention of anyone else in the room. You might even be lucky enough to see it dance and shake on the breeze as the wind whistles a familiar tune.

But, that’s not all to the bubble. I’ve seen it in moments of stillness, taking a moment to recover its radiance when it believes no one is the wiser. After all, it’s not easy keeping up glimmer or gloss these days. If you ever saw these occasions, you might liken it to any other bubble you might see, but other thin-walled bubbles only appear as clear spheres and can burst at the slightest suggestion. This bubble is one of those that have built up on themselves, layer by layer, and can refract their light so brilliantly and colorfully.

That does not come without its set of hardships however, nor does that imply this bubble cannot be fragile. But this one knows its common wind patterns and who it can rely on for support if the sun doesn’t shine as brightly some days. Someone that doesn’t know better may attempt to lift this bubble up when they see it sink low, but don’t feel hurt if it harmlessly bounces away and back into the sky; its strength and independence is why I can tell you this story today.

I know a soap bubble. One I’m blessed to have gotten a chance to see in person, since you can never even begin to understand her depths from pictures alone, nor can you truly comprehend how much she will blow you away until you meet the real thing.
